Claims: Trainers Recklessly and Willfully Trained and Encouraged Dolphins to Throw Water At Spectators

A Chicago woman is suing Brookfield Zoo, claiming -- among other things-- that bottle-nosed dolphins there deliberately splashed water on herduring a visit to the zoo in August 2008. In a suit filed this week in the Circuit Court of Cook County, AllecynEdwards, claims she slipped and injured herself, blaming zoo keeperswho “recklessly and willfully trained and encouraged the dolphins tothrow water at the spectators in the stands, making the floor wet andslippery.” Edwards is seeking in excess of $50,000 for her injuries. Edwards didnot return calls, and when her husband answered the door to thecouple’s home Wednesday, he told a reporter to call his wife’s lawyer. The attorney, Edward G. Proctor Jr., did not return repeated calls tohis Chicago office Wednesday. “I cannot really comment because litigation is pending,” said Sondra Katzen, a Brookfied Zoo spokesman. The suit claims the zoo also failed to provide: warnings about aslippery floor at the dolphin exhibit or any slip-resistant mats.
