Dyett HS student Died at 5:07 p.m. Monday

A 17-year-old high school student died Monday evening, hours after he was shot on his way to class, while parents at another South Side high school kept their children home in fear of escalating violence.

Martel Barrett was shot multiple times near 67th Street and Damen Avenue, not far from his home in the West Englewood neighborhood. Family members said he was wounded on his way to catch the bus to Dyett High School.
