Chicago News: Man's Body Pulled from Lake Michigan

This Happened At 6:10AM Today. I Will Update This Post As The Story Develops

CHICAGOBREAKINGNEWS -- The man whose body was pulled from Lake Michigan near Buckingham Fountain was identified as an official with the circuit clerk's office of Sangamon County.

The man -- identified as Matthew Dennison, 40, of Springfield -- spotted by a jogger at about 6:10 a.m., fire department officials said.

Dennison was head of the circuit clerk's office's passport division and its traffic division; he arrived in Chicago Sunday for a meeting of the Illinois Association of County Officials, said Sangamon County Circuit Clerk Tony Libri.

Libri said he learned of Dennison's death when Chicago police knocked on his door at about 9 a.m., asking him to identify the body. Libri had few details of the case, but said he didn't suspect foul play or suicide.

"I had dinner with him last night and he was fine. He wasn't depressed," Libri said.

Dennison had worked with him since 1996 and is survived by his wife and three children.

"He's my employee but he's one of my close friends," he said. "He was a great guy."

Chicago police are conducting a death investigation, said Officer John Mirabelli, a spokesman. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday at the Cook County medical examiner's office.
